Accademia Carrara |
Its Neoclassical building, built by Simone Elia at the beginning of the 1800's, is one of the most valuable Italian picture-galleries. Founded by Count Giacomo Carrara in 1796, this gallery contains about 1900 paintings from the XV to the XIX century, collections of medals, bronzes, sculptures, porcelains, miniatures and important collections of drawings and printings. The exposition tour is arranged on an ancient Neoclassical three-stored building, where works of almost all the major Italian artists are exposed: Beato Angelico, Pisanello, Botticelli, Bellini, Mantegna, Tiziano, Raffaello, Canova, Guardi, Perugino, Canaletto and others, besides important artists from Bergamo and Venice like Previtali, Cariani, Palma il Vecchio and Moretto. There are also wonderful paintings of the Flemish and German school and by other painters beyond the Alps, among which: Durer, Clouet, Brueghel and Rubens.
