Mountain Huts along the Sentiero delle Orobie
(a long-distance hiking trail through the Orobian high peaks)
Many huts can be found scattered along the trails that criss-cross Bergamo’s mountains.
The highest, in terms of elevation, are the Rifugio Brunone in Val Seriana (2295 m) and the Nani Tagliaferri hut in Val di Scalve (2328 m).
The following huts are found along the route of the the Orobian Trail: Alpe Corte (1410 m), Laghi Gemelli (1968 m), Fratelli Calvi (2015 m), Brunone (2295 m), Coca (1892 m), Curò (1915 m), Albani (1939 m).
Val Brembana is home to the western Orobian Trail (Sentiero delle Orobie Occidentali), which passes the following huts: Gherardi (1647 m), Cazzaniga (1889 m), Grassi (1987 m), Benignini (2222 m), Cà San Marco (1830 m), Calvi (2015 m).
These two trail constitute an important attraction for mountain lovers. The first is divided into eight sections, the second into seven, but the trails can also be hiked only partially.
The classic Sentiero delle Orobie starts in Valcanale and winds eighty kilometers through the mountains to Rifugio Curò, above Valbondione, before continuing on to the Albani hut and the Presolana.
The western Orobian trail begins in Cassiglio, in Val Brembana, and climbs to Rigufio Gherardi before continuing on to Rifugio Calvi, above Carona.
